Anyone interested in a friendly weight loss competition of sorts running through December? I could use some extra motivation

Kinja'd!!!

I'd like to attempt to lose 10 pounds before New Years. I think I have a shot since I'll probably be able to lose a few in water weight alone with one week of real exercise. I also plan on getting serious about losing long term again. I lost 20 pounds at the start of this year and I kept it off really well until November. Now I really want to get back on that horse and try to lose at least 30 pounds before Thanksgiving next year.

I'm going to be using MyFitnessPal to count calories and try to motivate exercise. I'd like to try running again in the spring as well. But we all have to start somewhere, so a dash to the new year it is. Who's in?

I'm getting dangerously close to 200 but I'm too lazy to do anything about it. I wish you the best of luck.

I somehow avoided "The Freshman Fifteen" last year, but unfortunately, just this fall I've managed to achieve the sophomore sixteen... I could definitely use some competition to lose a little!

Im exactly the same. I have like 10lbs of fat I'd like to lose and replace some of that with muscle.

If it's possible, I would suggest taking up swimming. It will provide you with a thorough exercise and will be much less stressful on your knees than running. In addition, you could do it with friends who might not even need the exercise since everyone enjoys playing in a pool. In addition, biking is always an option.

I have also needed to whip myself back into shape for the longest time. I've been doing way better lately about getting myself to do so. The bad weather and preparation for finals is not going to help my progress however.

Tackle basketball in the pool is the most physically demanding sport I have ever ever played. It's really hard to run through water with your 200lb friend dragging you down.

YES!!! Fuck. I somehow went from 190 to about 230 this fall. That's like a pound a day, it's quite impressive. I was 190 for 6 years. When the scale told me I was 230 I didn't believe it.

I'm in the same boat. I gained about 25 pounds after a drunk driver hit my car and messed up my back. Haven't been able to shake it off.

At least that's a legitimate excuse. Overtime did it for me, but I only say that to hide the truth that it was laziness and apathy

That was me in college. Ballooned 30ish pounds freshman year, got sick and lost all of it sophomore year, got stressed and put on 50 before I graduated. Fucking disgusts me to think about it. Now I'm right around where I was after freshman year, which sucks. I need to shed so much

I'll play on the opposite spectrum. I can't seem to keep my weight on.

Tackle basketball? I haven't heard of that.

I'm not in any boat to require weight loss, so I'll keep my numbers to myself, but I'd certainly get my fluid trainer back from my girlfriend and get into a schedule of working out in the dead of winter again. I have stepped on a scale somewhat recently, and we'll just say that for my eating habits, I was a bit shocked by the number, I expected something quite a bit different.

I always said I wanted to exercise. But with so much homework and me getting only about 4 hours of sleep every night, that's an impossibility.

I'm in! On Monday my best friend and I are going to join the gym that's about a block away from our apartments. I'm going to hit this thing hard, probably take 5 or 6 classes a week (included), because I'm 30 and tired and I need someone to tell me what to do.

I've realized that I view my body like most people view their cars. I want to take care of it. I want to be able to use it. And I want it to last me a long, long time. But I don't want to have to go to school and become an expert on its every little working. I'd rather pay an expert and have them tell me how to exercise and what to eat.

So yes, I will join King Jacob's Oppo Crusade Against Being Not Hot. Challenger to Mustang to Miata! Time to lose some weight.

Yes please! I actually already lost 50 lbs but in like the worst way possible: just pure stress and anxiety made me lose any of my appetite. I went from 290 to about 240 in the course of 2 months.

I need to get down to 200. I think im going to start running but its hard when I have no one else going with me so this will help me a lot!

When I have recovered from knee injuries, they have recommended biking as a way to get back to knee health because your knee is held more or less in a constant position.

Put a basketball hoop at the end of your pool and make a mark somewhere so that you have a reset zone to separate the courts (similar to half court basketball).

Usually we play in the shallow end so you can walk as well as swim. 3 per side, and since you're in water there is no dribbling, but tackling is allowed. Travelling rules (3 steps) still apply but it's good to pass often since if you don't and get stuck (no more steps) then you'll be tackled.

Each hoop is one and first to usually 5 or 10 wins. By the end I'm usually quite tired. Running through water is hard.
